Things don’t always have to be matchy-matchy.  Don’t be “scurrred” to mix golds, silvers, glitters ‘n’ patterns.  I’m obsessed with texture and I broke down the monochromatic color scheme with brown packaging paper and twine.  Those decorative hole punchers are SO much fun to play with.  Silk flowers aren’t always tacky and cheesy; it just depends on it’s application.  I glued seafoam and gold colored mini silk flowers to the centers of the folded paper pendants and instantly added a shabby-chic/Victorian look to everything.  For the beverages, I used coconut juice that came in these lovely shaped bottles, that looked just like a snow in them.

Step outside of the box, be resourceful and don’t take things too literally. The red and green combo was SO a gazillion years ago.  Play with fun patterns (I used a geometric one) and have fun with a fresh color palette.

They definitely don’t mess around when it comes to food.  I stayed in Bologna and I seriously hit the culinary jackpot- cha-ching!  Locals told me to try the Tortelloni, the Lasagna and anything Bolognese… I sure did and it was UH-mazing!

Congrats to Chris and Christine Negron.  Happy Halloween.

I had another amazing time at the OC Fair!  I always look forward to this event and it gets better ‘n’ better every Summer.  I was seriously on a constant happy-high the entire time. It was so much fun interacting with all the fair-goers, them reacting to my artwork and appreciating it in their own way.  I think that’s one of the main components to why I love and keep doing what I do.  I run on people responding to my work.  Something about this experience keeps me inspired and my imagination limitless.

Makin’ cakes in front of thousands of people wasn’t the only fun thing about this experience.  It’s the amalgam of being around great people, tons of things to keep one entertained and amazing food.  I had the opportunity to judge the cake entries for the Cake Decorating contest as well as eat a ton of Chocolates and Confections.  I really wish I could do it every day. lol

I really enjoyed doing this cake for Nathanael and Joy.  They’re the cutest couple ever!  The bride had a vision of having her wedding shabby chic with stark whites, lace and canary yellow.  This cake is filled with Vanilla Butter Pound Cake, Cream Cheese Vanilla Buttercream and Fresh Strawberries.

Yesterday, I did a Masquerade cake for a Sweet Sixteen at La Pomme in NYC.  The event was held at a chic, private event space that totally suited the style of my cake design.  She wanted bright golds, a nuance of red and DRAMA for her cake.  The flavor was Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Frosting.  Tanvi’s such a sweet girl with style and I definitely wanted to make a special cake for her.  Happy Sweet Sixteen Tanvi!
